I can't partition my SDD because of the "purgeable" space

I want to use Boot Camp to install Windows 10 so I can run Revit and other Autodesk products. I have can't partition my SDD because of the "purgeable" space on my SDD. I have an 250GB SDD that only had ~10GB free.

I've spent the majority of the day moving data from my SDD to an external drive and deleting those transferred files from Mac (yes I've emptied the trashcan).

I've used the new storage management feature in OS X Sierra to find and locate lots of large files (like 6 large - and old - iPhone backups weighing in between 3 and 9GBs etc). And app/software I no longer use/need.

My SDD says there's now 140GB available, of that ~92GB is purgeable. I can't seem to get the actual 'free' space Boot Camp needs to partition >50GB (it's stuck at 48GB). I deleted 8GB of videos and it just increased the overall space and the purgeable space, but not the free space. This is pretty frustrating. What else can I do???

Hi j00sh,

I understand that you are trying to install Windows 10 through Boot Camp on your MacBook Pro, but you're running into some storage issues. I know it's important to have enough free space to work with on your Mac, so I'm happy to help.

It's important to always have backups of your data, but you should be able to delete purgeable files since files marked as purgeable can always be downloaded again on demand. You can read more about that here:
What is 'Other' and 'Purgeable' in About This Mac? - Apple Support

You can also read more about purgeable files and other tips for freeing up space in this article:
